Texas Health Insurance Statistics
All of the states in the United States are facing health insurance problems. A significant number people across the country do not have health insurance for a variety of reasons. While the federal government has to figure out how to deal with the nation’s health insurance problems, to varying degrees each state also has to figure out how to deal with the insurance problem, and Texas is no exception.
In the period from 2002 to 2003, 75.3% of the Texas population has health insurance, while in the period from 2005 to 2006 that number increased slightly to 76.1%. Roughly one fourth of the Texas population does not have health insurance. While these numbers are okay, the numbers for the percent of employers offering health insurance in Texas is not at great. In 2003 48.7% and in 2005 50.7% of employers offered health insurance to employees. As for the percent of employees enrolling in employer-offered health care, in 2003 it was 82.4% while in 2005 it was 77.5%.
While a good portion of employees who can purchase employer-sponsored health care do so, not only do only half of all employers offer health care but on average employers pay a very small percentage of the premium. In 2003, they paid only 16.1% and in 2005 they paid only 15%.
